This tour features 2 of Slovenia’s most popular tourist destinations; a visit to the mystic underground of the Postojna Cave, the most prominent karst cave in the world, with a stop at the imposing Predjama Castle, listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest cave castle.
Our first stop is the idyllic village of Predjama, where upon arrival you’ll be amazed by the site of the fairy tale medieval Predjama Castle, famous for its dramatic setting in the gaping mouth of a cavern, halfway up a hillside. While there learn about the legend of the knight Erasmus – Slovenia’s own ‘Robin Hood’, who had some clever tricks to avoid his enemies.
Coffee break
After a short break we’ll make our way to Postojna, the home of the impressive Postojna Cave. The journey into the cave begins with an exciting electric train ride which will take us deep underground. Inside we will stroll through beautiful underground passages and chambers, viewing spectacular pillars, limestone curtains and other natural stone forms. Postojna Cave is the only place where you can admire at the ‘precious brilliant’ embedded in a cave formation and also meet the cave’s most famous residents which resemble baby dragons.
Lunch break
After lunch we’ll visit a fascinating interactive exhibition, which will guide you through the extraordinary events and a series of coincidences that resulted in the creation of this subterranean natural miracle.
On the way back we will see the strategic outpost of Ravbar tower, whose role was to protect the important road between the Ljubljana Basin and the Adriatic coast in antiquity.
